Sparking Joy in A New Season
Did you know that the new year used to actually be around March 25th? That’s right, back in 2000 B.C. the New Year was celebrated during the vernal equinox. They only had 10 months back then and the new year started when the planting season started in March.
All this to say that if your New Year’s resolutions from January have tapered off, don’t be too hard on yourself because you can reset in this new season. With Spring here, it’s like a fresh start so today we’re going to share some ways to help spark some joy & happiness in the new spring season!
Let’s Spark Some Joy:
Practice Gratitude: Take some time to reflect on things that you’re grateful for in your life. Even if it’s just 1-5 things, this can help to shift your focus & better appreciate what you do have in your life.
Declutter: Decluttering your space can do wonders. Make a day of it or if you feel overwhelmed, take baby steps and do a task or two for a week. Getting rid of things around your living space (closet, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, garage, drawers, etc) and/or work space that no longer serve a purpose or bring you joy can have a big impact on your mood and productivity.
Surround yourself with things you love: After you declutter, make sure that the things that you love & make you smile are in sight. Think plants, pictures of you and your loved ones or friends, a comfortable chair, an art piece you love or a good smelling candle.
Spend time with loved ones: Speaking of things you love, spending time with your people can really make you feel good. Also, if you have friends or family that live far away, taking a few minutes to send a text, call or FaceTime can also feel good as well.
Take care of yourself: As we’ve mentioned before, we can’t be our best for others if we’re not feeling the best ourselves. An empty cup can’t pour into others. This means taking care of ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally. Going on walks, exercising, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, practicing mindfulness and taking time for ourselves can help us feel more joyful & in turn make us better for those around us as well.
Do activities you enjoy: Whether it’s reading, baking, napping, shopping, playing tennis, knitting, riding a bike - whatever it is, try to incorporate it more. If you’re feeling stuck or looking for a new activity to try out, think back to when you were a kid or when you really were having a good time, what were you doing? Who were you around? Asking ourselves these kinds of questions can help give us insight into what makes us happy and then motivate us to find that joy again.
Wear an outfit you love: It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or expensive, but what do you feel confident in and what makes you happy when you wear it? If you’re not sure, start small with a pair of earrings, a top, or shoes and slowly build your way up to a full outfit that brings you joy and makes you feel good about yourself.
We hope that this inspires you to spark some joy in your own life! If you have other ways that help you find joy, please share with us!
Until next time,
