As we previously covered in our Developing Your Best Skincare Routine blog post, these days skincare routines + devices can be overwhelming & a lot to keep up with. Today we’re breaking down what we know about LED Light Therapy and how it can improve not only your skin, but your mental health as well.

What is LED Light Therapy? LED (light emitting diodes), which has been around since the 60s, produces a noninvasive light that is absorbed into the skin. LED Light Therapy utilizes specific proven wavelengths of light that can trigger a natural biostimulatory effect in human tissue. This process helps to rejuvenate and heal the skin. This can help treat anything from acne, anti-aging, collagen production, wrinkles, eczema, facial texture, sun damage, facial texture, reduce inflammation, wound-healing and more.

How can it treat all of the above + more? There are different wavelengths (colors) of LED Lights that target different molecules in our skin to produce results.  When our skin absorbs light, it increases energy, which allows our skin cells to do what they’re supposed to do. There are multiple LED Light Therapy wavelengths & depending on what you want to target will help you determine which LED light may be best for you.

Here’s a quick break-down of the different LED Light Therapy Colors:

Red LED Light: Ideal for targeting fine lines + wrinkles, reducing inflammation and stimulating the production of collagen. It is most-likely that you will see Red LED the most. This particular LED Light can also help combat depression by stimulating your mood + energy levels.

Yellow LED Light: Has soothing effects and can help reduce the appearance of dark spots + inflammation.

Green (Amber) LED Light: Treats under-eye circles, sagging skin under the eyes, hyperpigmentation, & sunspots. A neutralizing & calming color, this is another color that can help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression.

Blue LED Light: Another one you will see more commonly, most often used to help treat acne. Can be used alone or in combination with red LED lights.

When can you see results?: Unfortunately, you will not see results right away, but if you treat consistently, you could see results in up to 4 weeks (but for some, it could take up to 10 weeks). For best results with at-home treatment, you may want to use your device more often.

Where can you receive treatment? You can conduct LED Light Therapy at home or receive treatments at a spa. Typically treatments conducted by medical professionals at the spa are going to be stronger and more effective, allowing you to possibly see results sooner; however, at-home treatments can still be effective and yield results over time.

How is LED Light Therapy different from other procedures?: LED Light Therapy is one of the least invasive procedures when it comes to skin rejuvenation. There is little to no prep required as well as little to no downtime after treatment; however, your face could possibly be a little red or pink after treatment, but it shouldn’t last long.
